Figured I'd join the foray here!

I usually DJ by the name of Pussy Galore, but sometimes just use my real name Marilyn Thomas.

I primarily spin electro, techno, synthpop, new wave, 80s, punk/rock, indie/alternative, but can break out some other stuff too... even some goth/industrial/EBM when I am so inclined. ;-) But I haven't lately.

The Ghoul and I are working on a new monthly night together here in Philly. It's going to be hella fun!

Actually most people get it, surprisingly. And that's a good thing. DJ Zillah is a Philly-based DJ with a residency at www.sinthursday.com. The DJ you are thinking about is actually named DJ Zlaya (a Slavic lad if I'm not mistaken).

Thanks for looking at my site! :)

it was fun , we had a lot of problems with the club shifting us around and rebooking the room at the last minute ... they don't seem to understand the concept of building a night ...

        c'est la vie ..

we look for a new venue hopefully not on a work night because when i get working in the film industry it really is a drag to pull a 12 hour day , then go to the club and dj, and then get up at 5.30 am or 6 and do it all over again ...

so yeah we are on hold, for now i just dj at small parties in the mean time .. and focus on makeing music =:)

I've had problems with clubs shifting things around too much or just randomly deciding to be closed for a night without telling anyone. Hell, one time they rented out the club for the night for a private hip hop party and didn't even bother to tell anyone. Needless to say, those sorts of things made the nights (which were otherwise growing nicely) to fail.

Luckily we're now situated in the swanky-est venue in St. Louis, we're pulling in enough of a crowd on a regular basis that they're happy having us around, and they have the sense to understand consistency.

Good luck geting something else going.

I'm having the same problems. We are working with a guy who doesn't think that we need to charge at the door, we don't need flyers or any advertisement and that in the middle on an industrial/noise set I should play classic rock. We also have a "side project" on monday nights, and all of the sudden there's half a night of Kareoke.. WTF?! Rock guitarists should not own bars.

i guess its sad but a fact that they have to make a profit to pay rent and pay their employees

i will make damn sure that the next place i use as a venue will have better communication.
